It brought back Start menu and packs some exciting new features apps. However, no new software release is devoid of problems, and Windows 10 is no exception. Thousands of users who installed Windows 10 in their PCs are reporting that their microphone is not working after installation of the new OS. There are also reports of other sound issues, software specific bugs which make it impossible to use apps like Skype, Cortana, Movies and more. Bugs in Windows 10 sound settings are making it a nuisance for millions users worldwide. But fortunately, we have found ways to fix sound problems in Windows 10. This article lists some of the best ways using which you can fix sound problems in Windows 10. You can try these solutions on your device running Windows 10. Fix Sound Problems in Windows 10
Windows 10 sound problems are mostly related to lack of OEM driver updates or faulty settings. Most of the hardware devices running Windows 10 had built-in integration with Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and an upgrade to Windows 10 was destined to cause some initial problems. You can fix sound issues, mic not working problem in Windows 10 by following the methods given below.
1) Select the Appropriate Bit Rate
Bit rate is an important factor which determines the sound of the playback device in your PC. If the bit rate is not set correctly, the speakers fail to register any sound.
Right click on the sound icon which is located at the bottom right corner of the screen, as you can see in the image.
Click on “Playback Devices” from the menu.
The new screen will show the playback devices, which is the speaker in most of the cases.
Double click it and you will see another window showing the properties of the playback device.
Click on the “Advanced” tab. Here, you will see a dropdown menu from where you can change the bit rate and bit depth. Choose the option 24bit/44100 Hz or 24bit/192000Hz and then check whether the sound problem in Windows 10 is fixed or not.

2) Reinstallation of Drivers

Open Device Manager in Windows 10.
Right click on the sound device and click the “Update Driver Software” option. The system will search the latest driver and install it.
Doing a Manual Search and Download for Driver is Preferred
In many cases, an automated search for updated drivers from the device manager does not work because the system retrieves the drivers from the outdated sources. The best way is to manually download and install the updated drivers by going to the manufacturers websites. All famous PC manufacturers like Lenovo, HP, Toshiba, Dell, etc. have provided updated drivers on their. All you need to do is to go to official website of your computer’s manufacturer, locate your device and search for the latest driver for sound, audio. You can search the drivers for your device using the serial number, model number of your computer. This number or model is mostly written on the body of the PC. You can also contact the device manufacturer directly. A quick search about your PC model on Google mostly helps in locating all the relevant drivers.
Download the driver manually from the manufacturer’s website. A file will be downloaded which could be installed as a standalone .exe file. You can also make the device manager search the drivers from the specific location in your PC.
Fix Mic Not Working Problem in Windows 10

If mic is installed correctly in your Windows 10 device, you will see it in the list. Try speaking loudly and the green bars will move up and down, as shown in the image.
If the green bars are working, but Skype or some other software is not picking up the audio, as reported by a lot of users, the problem lies in your program and there is no issue with mic of your PC. Perhaps the software is listening to the wrong device. Try changing the settings of that program.
If the green bars are not rising when you speak, that means the mic is not working in Windows 10. If you see some other microphone/audio devices in the list of “Recording Devices”, try figuring out which one of them is your mic, and then click on that device, and then click “Set Default”.
In my case, there is only one mic and it is set as default.
After making the mic as default device, check if things are working. If not, try making all the mic devices as default one by one. Otherwise move to the next solution.
5) Adjust Levels of Mic
Double click on your mic from the list of recording devices and click on “Properties”.
Now click on “Levels” tab and move the slider to the right in order to make the number in the box to 100.
Now check the microphone in your computer again.
6) Fix Sound Problems in Edge Browser
Many users have reported that their audio, sound problem in Windows 10 is browser specific, and only comes in Microsoft Edge browser. In that case, the problem has to do with the Adobe Flash settings. Here’s how to fix it.
Open Edge browser in Windows 10.
