Fix Apps Not Working Problem in Windows 10

Executing a command in PowerShell

Most of the users with the apps problem reported that many Metro apps like Settings, Weather, Start Menu, News etc. don’t work in Windows 10. Microsoft has addressed this problem, and provided a code which the users can easily run in the Windows Powershell terminal. Powershell is just like the command prompt.

  • Open Powershell in Windows 10 by typing “powershell” in the search bar of Windows. 10 and clicking the icon of the program.

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

Note: You must be logged in your computer as “Administrator” otherwise the command would not work.

The above command actually “resinstalls” the Modern or Metro apps. The reinstallation process does not affect the data and settings of your apps, so no need to worry about that.

Now check the Metro apps and see if they are working or not. If apps not working in Windows 10 is still not fixed, move on to the next step.

Scanning for corrupt files

  • Open Windows Powershell and execute the following command.

sfc /scannow

  • The execution will take a few seconds or minutes. The result would either indicate that there were no integrity violations in the computer, or it would show that there were some corrupt files. If the result message says “Windows did not find any integrity violations”, this means that your problem is not in the corrupt files. But if the message says “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and repaired them”, this means that the problem was in fact in the files and now it should be fixed. But sometimes the scan would not fix the problem by itself and you will have to run a separate command to solve the problem. So in case the result of the command says “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix them”, this means the problem is not solved.

You can fix this problem by following the steps below.

  • Open Notepad
  • Copy, paste the following code in the notepad file.

echo off

net stop clipsvc

if “%1″==”” (

 echo ==== BACKING UP LOCAL LICENSES

 move %windir%\serviceprofiles\localservice\appdata\local\microsoft\clipsvc\tokens.dat %windir%\serviceprofiles\localservice\appdata\local\microsoft\clipsvc\tokens.bak

)

if “%1″==”recover” (

 echo ==== RECOVERING LICENSES FROM BACKUP

 copy %windir%\serviceprofiles\localservice\appdata\local\microsoft\clipsvc\tokens.bak %windir%\serviceprofiles\localservice\appdata\local\microsoft\clipsvc\tokens.dat

)

net start clipsvc

  • Now save the file with the name license.bat
