HP OfficeJet 8600 Pro Plus Hands-on Review

Introducing the HP OfficeJet 8600 Pro Plus

This handy printer is positioned as the ultimate all-rounder in HP’s line-up of printers. An upgraded version of the Pro 8600A Plus, this inkjet printer not only produces high-quality photos and documents alike rapidly, but also features Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Apple AirPrint connectivity, as well as printing through the cloud using HP’s ePrint.

Packaging and Initial Impressions

The HP OfficeJet 8600 Pro Plus takes on a new coat of matte grey paint, which appears sleek and elegant while while hiding dust and fingerprints with ease. While it is not exactly small-sized, it is certainly reasonable for the amount of things it can do – definitely worth clearing out a bit of desk space.

Design

HP has opted for a complete redesign of the exterior of this particular model. The 250-sheet input tray is located at the front, sticking out a bit, with a sliding piece to catch any falling paper. The The 50-sheet Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) is at the top. If the capacity is insufficient, heavy users can opt to purchase the premium version, that has an additional 250-sheet tray. The 109mm LCD touchscreen can be found on the right, and can be elevated to face upwards if necessary. While navigation onscreen is simple enough, the screen is sometimes rather unresponsive, which is rather unfortunate. All things considered, though, the redesign is a refreshing change.

Speed and Performance

IMG_5700

The speed of printing on this model is incredibly fast, although not quite as swift as HP claims (20ppm for black and 16ppm for colour print). However, it is certainly fast enough for home use or professionals alike – a printing job of 5 pages with full text took about 35 seconds to complete, while a full-color page took about 30 seconds. The quality of the prints were superb, and could easily be mistaken for laser printing. Black text was sharp and dense, while colors were smooth, albeit slightly pale and grainy. As a document printer, though, the OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus excels.

Should you buy the HP OfficeJet 8600 Pro Plus?

The OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus is a sleek, reliable, and swift device that covers all the bases well. With its array of modern features, it is a tough act to beat. I would definitely recommend this model for home office or small business use.
