Apple released its 10-inch ultra lightweight iPad Air 2 in October that drew attention of tablet lovers towards itself. Other tech giants are also part of this fierce competition in tablets market. iPad Air 2 snatched the title of being the thinnest tablet from Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 that was released in June. We will compare features of these devices in detail.
Price and Availability
The starting price of iPad Air 2 is $491 (16GB, Wi-Fi Only) and it is easily available from all over UK from the official Apple stores. The 64GB version will cost you $590 and 128GB model is priced at $688. The price for 16 GB Samsung Galaxy Tab S is $491 for Wi-Fi only model and $590 for Wi-Fi+Cellular model. The prices are comparable for these two tablets.
Design and Build
When Galaxy Tab S was launched in June, the title of iPad Air as the thinnest tablet was taken away and assigned to the flagship tablet from Samsung. It is only 6.8mm thick. Apple responded to the challenge very quickly by releasing 6.1mm ultra-slim iPad Air 2 in October. Honestly speaking, having so thin tablets doesn’t push the technology further towards ease for users. Even iPad Air was quite slim for holding easily.
The weights of tablets lie in low range. The iPad Air 2 weighs only 437g, and the Galaxy Tab S is slightly heavier at 465g with a slightly bigger screen also.
iPad Air 2 contains metal chassis that is quite elegant as compared to the dimpled plastic of Galaxy Tab S. Metallic look gives tablets premium feel and touch.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab uses Super AMOLED display technology. It contains the resolution of 2560×1600 pixel resolution (280ppi). The display is beautiful, crisp, and ideal for watching movies with 16:10 aspect ratio.
iPad Air 2 contains a slightly awkward 4:3 aspect ratio, although that has become the Apple’s convention. The screen resolution is 2048×1536 pixels that make a slightly lower pixel density of 264ppi. The IPS screen will still offer more than useful experience. Apple has added an anti-reflective coating also for better display.
Processor and Hardware
Galaxy Tab S contains Exynos 5 Octa-core processor, or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 depending upon the franchise from which you buy. It contains 3GB of RAM. The built-in capacity is 16GB, while you can add microSD card up to 128GB.
iPad Air 2 possesses A8X chip, and is complemented by 1GB of RAM. It contains M8 motion coprocessor designed to make the tablet even more efficient. You can easily choose between 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB options. You can also use microSD card for expansion.
Galaxy Tab S boasts 8MP rear camera with LED flash and 2.1MP front-facing camera. iPad Air 2 also provides an 8MP rear camera, but without LED flash. The front facing camera is also weak with 1.2MP sensor.
Both tablets should run all day long with average usage. iPad Air 2 contains 7340mAh battery that has smaller charge as compared to that of Galaxy Tab S with 790mAh.
Overall, both tablets are simply amazing with their specs. Their slim and smart bodies make them very easy to hold. You must consider the entire comparison basis before deciding to purchase one of these devices.
